Eyes on the prize

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]What everybody should know before starting a business is that you will have to work a lot and give 200% of yourself and sometimes without any results in the first months. Time flies, and if you don’t take advantage of it in the begging, you will be your business slave for the rest of your life.

For example, I started my web agency from scratch. No portfolio and no clients, I was a young woman with any credibility. I started it with my boyfriend cause we both work in the same area, so it was easier to distribute the tasks. However, if you start alone, you will maybe stay alone for a while during the beginning of your business, so you will have to do everything alone.

The only way to don’t despair after a couple of months is to have a goal, like a carrot on a stick, your motivation is there.

My goal was to live near the sea in a sunny country all year and control my work. To do that I decided to start my web design business in Spain. So each time I was desperate, I just had to think about my goal, and there we go.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_single_image image=”742″ img_size=”full” alignment=”right” qode_css_animation=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

Advertising: your best ally

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]This topic is very important! The first thing you have to think of is making your advertising!
For that you will need some internet tools like a website, social media accounts, a Google business account, we call it an online presence.
Make a business credible is starting on the internet cause now everyone is online, and everyone loves Facebook and, and that includes your potential clients.

So what should you do with all that?

It’s not only about to create a website and Facebook or IG account. It’s using half of your time to posting twice a week (once a day is better but let’s start slowly).
Then using those posts to advertise on them like using Facebook ads, share your website everywhere, using IG ads is also a good idea. The point is, you will get faster results if you expose your business online all the time. You can reach the entire world using the internet.

You can also use local media like radios and newspapers to advertise on but once again use their websites to do that cause paper is losing ground and listen to advertising on radio is not that exciting also it is expensive.

So guys, before starting your business, prepare your advertising, create your website, and social media and open a google business account so you can be positioned well on Google.

Also, think about SEO (search engine optimization) for your website. It’s essential to optimize searching on ALL search engines.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1558719827329{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-right: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;padding-left: 20px !important;background-color: #000000 !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

TIP: Start with Facebook Ads

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”normal” color=”#ffffff”][vc_column_text]Facebook ads work very well when it comes to making advertising cheaper and faster. Everybody is on Facebook so you can hope target half of your potential clients in there for a reasonable price. You should start there![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_single_image image=”716″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

The website: your most effective online front store

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Well, this topic it’s a bit tricky for me to talk about it. As a web designer, it’s obvious I will tell you to do a website; it’s my job!

However, I’m not here as a web designer, I’m here as a young girl who wants to share with you my experience of starting a business. A website is definitely the best way to start. Here is all the reason why:

  • A website can be positioned on all search engines.
  • A website can be personalized according to your brand look
  • A website can be used on every advertising you want, Facebook and IG ads included.
  • A website is a higher professional level
  • A website is your business front store, you can create the best experience for your clients, so they can find easily the information they need.

Facebook is not a website. People tell me: “I have facebook, and it’s enough.” -No, It is not! You can’t make SEO on it for example. Everyone has Facebook, even your competition, so what makes you different from them? Nothing. Think about it. You need something that puts you on the next level.

Having Facebook will help you to create a community, that’s good for your business, but a website will make the difference for your potential clients.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1558719827329{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-right: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;padding-left: 20px !important;background-color: #000000 !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

TIP: A website with WordPress

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”normal” color=”#ffffff”][vc_column_text]If you want to start by doing a website the less expensive possible, I advise you to use WordPress instead of Wix. You will have to pay for a domain and hosting (around 40$ a year) and for a WordPress theme (about 60$ one time) that you can easily customize an imported demo.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”718″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” qode_css_animation=””][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

Charge your services

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]I think this is the most challenging part when you start a business and especially if you have just finished your degree and don’t have the most experience and a portfolio. I struggled at first, but then with time, I started knowing better my kind of clients, how they think and if they can pay or not.

However, I have some advice to help you go easier on it:

  • First and most important advice is to get in mind that your time is money. It has a cost. No matter how much experience you have or how big your portfolio is, you have to get paid for the time you spend providing service and use your knowledge you paid for during 3, 5 even 10 years!
  • Then you have to know that all client will try to haggle over your prices! In the beginning, you will have to be flexible. Not give it for free but maybe low a bit your price so they can accept. It’s necessary to have to low paid projects for start cause you need to make your portfolio!

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_column_text]

Hourly or value rate?

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]Well, I guess the answer depends on what you are selling! If you have a business like mine that requires creativity, ideas, and creations, you should rate by value. Especially if your client will earn money with your services. Rating this kind of business hourly can be underestimated for you. Imagine a logo that took you 1h to do it, but you rated it for about 8h. Should you be punished for being effective? The results are the same, the client will probably win a lot with your logo, but just because you did it very quickly, it doesn’t have the same value?
Think about it…

In the other hand, if your job is something that only requires your presence and handy help, like dentists, doctors, professors, cookers, and others, you can charge hourly.

For example: if you make a birthday cake, you know it will take about 3h to do it, and 20$ for the ingredients. So, in this case, you should charge your 3 hours + what’s needed to cover the costs + profit.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]In conclusion:

When I started, I struggled a lot. Between prospect new clients, create a portfolio, and try to be correctly and honestly paid, I still struggle sometimes. However, it’s been two years, and each month it gets Better. You only have to be patient, dedicated at 100% to your job and be honest and positive with clients and yourself. If you do that it will just be easier for you to start a business.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_column_text]Guys, That’s all for today!
